Chicken with Plums (2011)

2012 Dublin International Film Festival – Winner Dublin Film Critics Special Jury Prize.
2011 Abu Dhabi Film Festival – Winner Best Narrative Film.

US release date: August 17

Marjane Satrapi’s first collaborative live action movie turns out to be more or less like… a Jeunet movie. But OK. Jeunet’s good. At least, if you discount Alien 4 and Micmacs.
It’s about Nasser Ali Khan, a not too financially succesful violinist (yes, chicken with plums is his favorite dish, thus the title) longing for happier love life in an artsy black comedy-melancholic tall tale mashup that will conveniently spoils you its own ending in the first 15 minutes for dramatic purposes. And then in the last 15 minutes, speed up the whole story to that very ending. Also for dramatic purposes. Maybe.

My Rating: 5/10
