2013 Oscar Foreign Language Films: ‘Bunohan’

2011 Golden Horse Film Festival – Winner NETPAC Award

What the heck is that Malaysian lad doing in a fight-to-the-death kickboxing match, on Thai borderland? It only makes more sense later when he flees, coming back to his home village ‘Bunohan’. Yes. Bunohan means ‘murder’. And the guy who hunts him is none other than his own older half-brother.
Don’t worry, this movie is not about some silly fist fest. It’s about money, debts, death, shadow puppets, shadows, bloodline, blood, mysticism, medicine, story within a story, and magnificent cinematography.

My Rating: 8/10
