The Sweeney

The_SweeneyUS release date: March 1

British cops fight armed robbers and dangerous assault rifles and shotguns totting criminals, using only wooden bats, bare knuckles, and standard handguns? Oh but it’s a ‘hardcore’ London detective squad, the Sweeney. So hardcore they, some of them anyway, use ‘intense’ interrogation techniques, use coarse language, fuck each other in public toilet and Holiday-Inn, and also corrupt.
By the way, nice Christopher Nolan style imageries and musical soundtrack emulation, Mr. Director. Nothing’s really original these days, and it is in fact a 70’s TV series remake to begin with, eh?

Thanks to those damn ubiquitous AK-47s, everybody can afford to wage wars and become instant ‘rebel armies’. Just abduct some kids, train them, and voilà: your very own cheap killing machines to fight ‘evil’ governments. One of those small soldiers is a young girl named Komona. And she can see dead people.

Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons

Journey-to-the-WestStephen Chow’s Monkey King legend reimagining has some fair share of creativity flairs and a bit touching moments, but overall it’s marred in a rather silly demon hunting and immature pretty-girl chasing goofy-boy story. Not to mention the CGI. They are just-gouge-your-eyes-out-already horrible. Wen Zhang is doing the best he can as a Jacky Cheung/Stephen Chow hybrid clone, but even that, and (getting too old for this kind of role) Shu Qi, can’t save the quite preachy and basically painfully unfunny script. No sequels please, Mr. Chow!

If the Israelis insist to keep on stealing Palestinian lands, the Palestinian people must at least try to take it back, and film it while trying. The main difference is, the Israelis have troops, teargas, and assault rifles, so it’s evidently much easier for the Israelis to do their jobs. But before you start cursing on the Israelis, or the Palestinians, do you know that this film is made by a Palestinian AND an Israeli?

What we can learn from this AIDS activists confrontation against US government in the 80’s and 90’s is that we cannot just sit back and rely on governments, drug companies, and religious establishments to help people with illness. We must push them to do it.
Governments always have so many lame excuses to just let people, minority, die. Drug companies are only there for the money, and religious establishments are basically always feel too smart to learn things they don’t understand. And we can’t rely on the majority of people either. These activists fought Bush Senior, and in 2000 the majority elected his son as president–and in 2004 they did it again.

Who’s this Rodriguez? And he supposed to be dead years ago, commited suicide on stage? Isn’t that just too crazy to be even remotely true? So who was he? Just another wasted talented musician that America never wanted, but somehow became a big hit in South Africa? Isn’t that also too crazy to be even remotely true?
