Stephen Chow’s Monkey King legend reimagining has some fair share of creativity flairs and a bit touching moments, but overall it’s marred in a rather silly demon hunting and immature pretty-girl chasing goofy-boy story. Not to mention the CGI. They are just-gouge-your-eyes-out-already horrible. Wen Zhang is doing the best he can as a Jacky Cheung/Stephen Chow hybrid clone, but even that, and (getting too old for this kind of role) Shu Qi, can’t save the quite preachy and basically painfully unfunny script. No sequels please, Mr. Chow!
